Dora Akunyi Body Arrives in Nigeria

The former leader of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Commission, NAFDAC, Dora Akunyiri, who died at the age of 59 in India hospital has her body arrived at Nnadi Azikiwe Airport at Abuja. Her body arrived yesterday, Wednesday, 11th June, 2014, and then transfered to a mortuary in the country's capital, Abuja, Nigeria. It is a big loss to Nigeria but God knows the best. She was recieved by the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi; the husband; a younger brother to the dead intelligent professor and peace fighter. The former governor of Anambra State said that the plan for the burial ceremony of the professor will start in no distant time.

Dora Akunyili is Dead

Former leader of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Commission, NAFDAC, Dora Akunyiri, is dead. This was a woman who really fought for the poor by bridging any gap that might encourage any use or importation of fake drugs or foods in the country of Nigeria. In fact, positive impart that Dora made in Food and drug industries was heard all over the nation when she was the leader of NAFDAC. Dora died on Saturday morning, 7th June, 2014, in Indian were she went for medical treatment. It was said that Dora was suffering from Cancer which lead to her death. According to PREMIUM TIMES news report, a close family friend confirmed Dora's death.

UNILAG shuts campus over students protest

Students of University of Lagos, UNILAG, Nigeria, has been into serious protest in the recent time. What are the causes of the protest in UNILAG? According to Daily Times Online News, the causes of the protest are increase late registration fee from about N10000 to N25,000, introduction of fee for courses editing and for yet to be increased school fees from next academic year. The students showed their annoyance when they blocked roads that lead to entrance and exit of vehicles in and out of the university on Friday. Some of the students promised that the protest will not stop until possible amendment is made on the fees through the university's website. Authorities of University of Lagos has temporarily closed the institution as a result of the protests embarked upon by students until a positive change is observed. Also, a student complained that the school authority does not take good care of them. He complained that most equipments they make use of are no longer functional.

In an interview with the coach of under-20 national team of Nigeria, Manu Garba, on Friday, 6th June, 2014, he said that Super Eagles will perform well in the World Cup. ASUP and COEASU Strikes will Soon be called off

The Chairman of Governing councils colleges of Education, Emmanuel Nosike, said that the long on-going strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, and Colleges of Education, COEASU will soon be called off in few days. Supervising minister of education, Wike, stated this yesterday while having meeting with Heads of Federal Tertiary Institutions to discuss challenges facing Public higher institutions in Nigeria. He said that it the right of tertiary institutions to appoint Vice- chancellors, Rectors and Provosts, and Federal government has no hand in the appointment. He said that the institutions are that of federal government and any who is qualified for any position should be appointed notwithstanding where the person comes from. He said that what is more important is to ensure good study environment that where one comes from does not matter. What matters are the qualifications and not location the persons come from. In addition to that, he stated that what is right is right and that there is no how polytechnics will be the same with universities in the sense of issuing degree certificates to graduates from polytechnics as done by universities.

Kano State Governor gives 28 cars to Kano Pillars Fc

Kano state governor, Kwankwaso of Kano state, Nigeria, presented 28 brand new Corolla saloon cars to Kano Pillar Football Club. Kano Pillars is a local football club in kano state which takes part in football competitions in Nigeria, like the Nigeria League. The cars worth Millions of Nigerian naira. According to Vanguard News paper, the gift was backed up with some cash prices. The governor made these donations to show his joy to the club for winning 2013 Glo Premier League title for the second consecutive time. As if the gifts given by the governor was not enough, he went further to help other local clubs in the state. His good action worths emulating by other leaders. The government of Kwakwanso of Kano state gave sporting equipments and cash that is equivalent to N175, 509, 000 to 20 football clubs from each of the 44 local government areas of Kano state as well as other clubs in the state Tofa Divisions, I, II and III league.

An Afghan presidential candidate,Mr Abdullah, escape a suicide bomb attack targeted at his convoy in Kabul as he was leaving an election gathering in a wedding hall. Abdullah Abdullah has his major opponent as Ashraf Ghani. Any who wins in the election that is no longer far from now becomes the president of Afghanistan. According to report by the police, few were killed in the suicide car bomb attacks. About three unlucky persons were killed including an Abdullah's body guard and at least 22 injured when two blasts hit a rally. The presidential candidate was not injured at all. Mr Abdullah and his co-aspiring president condemned the attack as it is inhumane act. The bomb blast was heard within the city as it exploded. On 14 of June, 2014, any of the contestants that has the highest votes becomes the president of Afghanistan.

Algeria Ready for Brazil 2014 World Cup

Algeria is one of the countries that will be representing Africa in Brazil 2014. The team showed that they are growing in strength and power when they won Romania in their recent friendly match encounter. Algeria won Romania 2-1 in the match and many fans of the team expressed their joy immediately after the match as they rushed into the pitch to congratulate the players. The Algerian coach, Vahid Halilhodzic, was very happy and said that his team is ready for the world cup 2014. Quoting him, he said: "We have a lot of optimism and confidence as we go to the World Cup". Algeria find itself in group H with Belgium, South Korea, and Russia.

250 prisoners Escaped in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Democratic Republic of Congo is a country located in African continent. According to 2013 World Bank Report on richest and poorest countries of the world, Democratic Republic of Congo was shortlisted as the world's poorest country. The country experienced a lot of Civil wars. According to BBC report on 5th June, 2014, at least 250 prisoners in the Democratic Republic of Congo have escaped in a mass jailbreak at dawn in Bukavu. The prisoners got weapons and opened the doors of the prison. About three persons were killed during the escape including a the prison guard. Who knows if hunger was what forced them to escape?

According to NTA news report on 5th June, 2014, these wicked group of men killed about 46 citizens of Nigeria on Wednesday, 4th June, 2014. They came and gathered a crowd and appeared like people who wanted to preach, but suddenly brought out the gun and began to shoot the crowd. It happened at village of Barderi, near university of Maidugiri. The most annoying thing is that Boko Haram has been visiting this state capital.
